Local officials said that the rescue operation was hampered due to darkness due to the accident last night and the arrival of heavy machinery was delayed due to difficult routes. However, locals are taking part in the rescue operation. On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Ghotki Usman Abdullah said that 13 to 14 bogies derailed and 8 bogies were severely damaged in the accident. Many people are still trapped in the bogies, using hand cutters due to non-arrival of heavy machinery. The bodies have been exhumed.

 Ejaz Ahmed, train driver of Sir Syed Express, said that the coaches of the train coming to Karachi had fallen at 3:40 pm and they tried hard to apply the brakes but did not stop the train. It will prove that I was awake.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the railways tweeted that Rs 1.5 million would be given to those killed in the Ghotki train accident while Rs 50,000 to Rs 300,000 would be given to the injured passengers and those with minor and severe injuries.

According to a railway spokesman, 23 passengers injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan while the death toll is 56. However, nine bodies have not been identified yet.

It should be noted that 63 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a train accident near Ghotki. Authorities fear the death toll could rise.
